We think we are one
An island to ourselves
Gazing blankly in the mirror
What have I done with myself
I am many
Tiny versions of myself
Created in storms
Created in jubilee
Put me back together
There’s more than one of me
Come one
Come all
There’s room at this place
Look across the room
See the many faces
At the gathering of yourselves
Let them rage
Let them play
Let them cry
Let them fight
We are one when we stay through the night
The world keeps on spinning
And I’m trying to stay upright
So I roll out new faces
Straining for the light
We use them up
And then push them aside
Like old costumes
We no longer want to wear
Come one
Come all
There’s room at this place
Look across the room
See the many faces
At the gathering of yourselves
Let them rage
Let them play
Let them cry
Let them fight
We are one when we stay through the night
I am a crowd in one body
I am people I loathe
I am people I admire
I am learning to love
Each one back into the fold.
